The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has voiced deep concern over the worsening insecurity in northern Nigeria, urging for collective action to address the crisis.
Speaking at a joint meeting of the Northern State Governors Forum and the Northern Traditional Rulers Council in Kaduna, the Sultan emphasised that the region’s security challenges have reached a critical level. He called for unity among northern states to confront these issues effectively.
Highlighting the intertwined nature of insecurity and socio-economic hardship, the Sultan stressed the need to tackle poverty and unemployment, particularly among the youth, as part of a comprehensive strategy to restore peace and stability in the region.
The meeting, attended by several state governors, including Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, focused on devising strategies to combat security threats and promote development in northern Nigeria.
Gombe State Governor and Chairman of the Northern State Governors Forum, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, also called for intensified efforts to address the Almajiri phenomenon and youth unemployment.
The Sultan’s remarks underscore the urgency of coordinated efforts among political and traditional leaders to address the escalating insecurity and its underlying causes in northern Nigeria.
