grace okon confirms death of Ex-Councillor's mother

Suspicious cultists shot and killed the mother of an ex-councillor in Port Harcourt, Rivers County Council. Basically, her son, identified as Endurance, refused to pay an election security fee to them.

The incident occurred at Egede Street in the Diobu, Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

Eyewitnesses, who spoke to our newsmen on anonymity for security reasons, said that alleged cultists led by a certain Zubi met Endurance in front of his house on Egede Street, where he said he demanded that he pay the fee.

“But the ex-councillor said he didn’t have any money to give them. So, I think the suspected cultists became angry and started throwing bottles into his compound. Mr. Endurance ran into his house and the suspected cultists opened fire on him. The former councillor narrowly escaped the bullet which struck his mother”, the source said.

The eyewitness said the hoodlums escaped after perpetrating the crime. However, residents in the area alerted and reported the case to the Azikiwe Police Division. Consequently, police officers were deployed to the scene of the attack.

It was learnt that the ex-councillor’s mother who sustained bullet wounds was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where she had been receiving treatment.

Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident.

Iringe-Koko said,

“Yes, I can confirm the incident and an investigation is ongoing to ascertain what happened and ensure that the culprits are apprehended”.
