Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has approved the payment of N1 billion in gratuities for pensioners in the state.
He promised that his government would not leave people who had worked tirelessly.
Aside from the initial N1 billion, the governor allocated N200 million per month to mitigate the backlog.
He stated that it is unjust to deny workers who have slaved for years their entitlements.
Mrs Rose Garba Ajiya, Permanent Secretary for Pensions, stated that the gift will essentially put an end to years of misery and despair for elderly pensioners.
She stated that her team is fully prepared to begin payments because all records are available and meticulously managed.
The retirees told journalists that the last time such a gesture was made to them was in 2011.
They asked the governor to personally monitor the payment.
