Taiwo Oyedele, the chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, has addressed the inquiry over the new tax reform bills that are impeding President Bola Tinubu’s campaign for a second term.
The Chairman was questioned about if he realized he would be giving President Bola Tinubu a second term during a town hall meeting hosted by Channels Television to address the issues surrounding the bills.
The inquiry was raised in the midst of concerns that the laws had angered some of the nation’s political heavyweights, particularly in the North.
Oyedele, however, insisted that the legislation were for the sake of all Nigerians and expressed hope that they would not be the reason for the president’s death in 2027.
According to Oyedele:
“I feel really very sorry for Mr President, even though he says nobody should feel sorry for him.
“And it’s just Nigerians from all over Nigeria who came up with this analysis, using data to make those recommendations, but they bring everything on him. But as a leader, he’s taking all of it in good faith.
“I hope that the reason why, if anything happens in 2027, will not be because of this bill, because that way, we’ll be doing an injustice, not only to him, but to the whole of this country, Nigeria.”
