Bologna have confirmed the departure of head coach Thiago Motta as he prepares to join Serie A giants Juventus. Motta, who has declined a contract extension, is set to replace Massimiliano Allegri following a series of controversies surrounding the latter.
Motta, who guided Bologna to an impressive Champions League qualification this season, informed the club management of his decision not to renew his contract, which concludes at the end of the campaign.
This historic achievement marks Bologna’s first qualification for Europe’s premier club competition since they won the Serie A title in 1964.
Multiple reports suggest Motta will take over at Juventus, succeeding Allegri, who was dismissed after a controversial Coppa Italia victory.
Allegri’s outburst at match officials and alleged altercation with the chief editor of Tuttosport were deemed incompatible with the club’s principles, leading to his exit.
