A spokesperson for the Presidency, Daniel Bwala, has indicated that President Bola Tinubu may strategically prioritise the appointment of ambassadors to countries within the G20 alliance.
This was stated by Bwala in a social media post addressing the significant delays in releasing the official list of ambassadorial nominees.
Bwala clarified that the President has openly acknowledged the holdup, attributing it primarily to severe funding challenges currently plaguing Nigerian foreign missions worldwide.
These financial constraints have complicated the process of appointing and deploying diplomats, as the operational capabilities of embassies and high commissions are under strain.
Despite growing public concern and clamour for the list to be released, the administration is taking a calculated, strategic approach.
Recognising the immense importance of economic diplomacy, President Tinubu is considering giving precedence to nations that are part of the G20 due to their critical and strategic economic partnerships with Nigeria.
These countries represent some of the world’s largest economies and are vital to Nigeria’s foreign investment, trade, and international cooperation goals.
Bwala assured the public that the matter is being diligently addressed and will be resolved promptly.
The ultimate objective is to ensure that Nigeria has effective and dynamic representation in key nations abroad, which is essential for advancing the country’s interests on the global stage. The administration is working to overcome the funding hurdles to facilitate a smooth and strategic diplomatic deployment.
