Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has defended President Bola Tinubu against accusations regarding Nigeria’s economic challenges.
Speaking to journalists on May 20, 2025, following a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Governor Eno stated that President Tinubu did not create the current economic problems.
He emphasised that the president deserves national support to navigate the country through these difficult times.
Governor Eno described President Tinubu’s first two years in office as “wonderful,” highlighting the administration’s determined efforts to address inherited challenges.
He expressed confidence that, with continued support, the president would successfully steer the nation toward recovery.
In contrast, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has been critical of the administration’s handling of the economy.
Lawal has accused President Tinubu of appointing individuals to key positions without adequate qualifications, suggesting that such decisions have contributed to the nation’s economic difficulties.
Governor Eno’s remarks underscore a perspective within the political landscape that advocates for unity and support for the current leadership, rather than assigning blame for the nation’s economic challenges.
