Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the late Governor of old Abia State and former Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, was put to rest in his country home, Uburu Ohaozara Local Government Area in Ebonyi state.
President Bola Tinubu, Senator Anyim Pius, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Governors Alex Otti, Francis Nwifuru, and Peter Mbah were among the notable Nigerians who attended the burial.
Onu died at the age of 72 and was buried on Friday.
Tinubu stated that the late former National Chairman of the disbanded All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) will be remembered for his significant sacrifice for national unity and growth.
He recalled Onu’s major contribution in the founding of the rural All Progressives Congress, or APC, and appealed to God for everlasting rest in his heaven.
Ebonyi Governor Francis Nwifuru also praised the late statesman, claiming that he played an important part in the country’s progress and togetherness.
In his address, President Bola Tinubu, represented by Minister of Works David Umahi, hailed Onu as a perfect gentleman who lived a selfless life and made significant contributions to the country’s progress.
