Tinubu, stop treating Nigeria as a personal estate — Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Tinubu to rein in his family members, accusing them of acting as though Nigeria were a private estate.

Atiku warned that Nigeria belongs to all its citizens and should not be run for the benefit of a few individuals connected to the president.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Atiku expressed concern over the increasing influence of Tinubu’s family in government affairs.

He pointed to growing reports suggesting that members of the president’s inner circle have been overstepping their roles, asserting control in ways that could damage public confidence in governance.

He said such behaviour not only contradicts democratic principles but also risks creating a perception of nepotism and entitlement in public service.

Atiku urged Tinubu to take immediate steps to demonstrate that leadership should be about public interest, not private gain.

His comments come amid widespread concerns about power centralisation within the presidency and the growing role of family networks in national decision-making.

Atiku’s statement has stirred conversation across political lines, with many calling for transparency, checks on influence, and renewed commitment to serving the Nigerian people.
