Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has dismissed recent endorsements of President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 elections as premature and lacking political substance.
The ex-minister characterised these early campaign moves as “a political caricature” that demonstrates poor understanding of Nigeria’s current socio-economic realities.
Dalung argued that with nearly three years remaining before the next general elections, such endorsements divert attention from pressing national issues requiring immediate solutions.
He noted that Nigerians are currently grappling with economic hardship, security challenges, and infrastructure deficits that should take precedence over early politicking. The former minister questioned the rationale behind pushing for another term when the administration is yet to fully deliver on its initial campaign promises.
The political analyst further suggested that these early endorsements might reflect internal party anxieties rather than genuine public support.
He observed that similar premature campaigns in Nigeria’s political history have often backfired when the electorate perceived them as taking voters for granted. Dalung advised the ruling party to focus on governance and tangible achievements that would naturally earn public trust ahead of the next election cycle.
Reacting to claims that the endorsements demonstrate Tinubu’s strong political machinery, He maintained that true political strength should be measured by concrete improvements in citizens’ welfare rather than staged support.
Dalung concluded that Nigerian voters have become more sophisticated and would ultimately judge the administration by its performance rather than early campaign theatrics.
