Fashion designer and stylist Toyin Lawani, known for her work with Tiannah’s Empire, has candidly shared her healing journey after undergoing six surgeries.
Taking to Instagram, Toyin revealed that she reached a significant milestone in her recovery yesterday, expressing heartfelt gratitude for her progress and the support she has received.
In her post, Toyin Lawani recounted the various surgeries she has endured to ensure her survival, even as she occasionally wakes up paralyzed. She described the removal of a lump growing between her vocal cords, a consequence of an emergency tracheotomy that left her vocal cords damaged. This surgery was performed to save her life after she stopped breathing, rendering her unable to speak for months.
Yesterday was a huge step to recovery for me. The last image was before my last surgery a few months ago. I have had six surgeries in total now and am currently in therapy. That was the lump I had growing in between my vocal cords after my tracheotomy tube was removed from my throat. The tracheotomy left my vocal cord ruined, as it was an emergency surgery to save me because I stopped breathing, and I couldn’t speak for months,” she wrote.
Toyin expressed deep appreciation for her dedicated medical team, who have been tirelessly working to restore her health, and for her supportive family, who have stood by her side throughout this challenging journey. She mentioned that her doctors had advised her to take two years off to fully recover, as she often stops breathing in her sleep and experiences paralysis and pain from implants in her neck.
Thank you to all my amazing team of doctors who have been working on me tirelessly for months to get me back on my feet and thanks to my wonderful and amazing family for being by my side all through this ordeal. Told you all I was going to take two years off because my doctors told me it will actually take two years to get me back to speaking and breathing properly again. Most times, I stop breathing in my sleep, and my meds keep making me blow up. I still wake up paralyzed at times, still have a bad leg, and still have pains from the implants in my neck. But in all, I thank God.”
Despite these hardships, Toyin is grateful for her progress, marking a year since she began treatment. She can now hear herself speak and make sounds with less struggle and chest pain. Looking forward, she announced the start of her speech therapy and hinted at a grand return.
My thanks Giving and big come back is coming. Help me thank God for this new phase. I’m on bended knees in His glory. Thank God we don’t look like what we are going through. Starting my speech therapy next week, wish me luck. And a big thank you to my amazing clients, fans, God bless you all.”
Toyin Lawani’s resilience and positive outlook in the face of adversity continue to inspire her fans and followers.
