Security forces operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have successfully neutralised three high-profile terrorist commanders during a well-coordinated ambush in Sokoto State.
The operation, carried out on July 25 between Mallamawa and Mazau villages in Sabon Birni Local Government Area, targeted and eliminated the notorious kingpins identified as Kachalla Nagomma, Gurmu, and Ali Yar Daribiyar.
Military sources revealed that the terrorists were intercepted while attempting to collect ransom payments and illegal levies from local communities in the Tsamaye/Mai Lalle district.
The troops engaged the militants in a fierce confrontation, resulting in their elimination. Three AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines and a motorcycle were recovered from the scene.
The successful operation has brought relief to residents of Mai Lalle, Tsamaye, Rimaye, and surrounding villages in Sabon Birni and Goronyo LGAs, where the terrorists had long terrorised civilians through killings, kidnappings, and extortion.
A local source expressed gratitude for the military’s intervention, stating, “These bandits have subjected our communities to untold suffering. Their elimination is a significant victory for our people.”
The Nigerian military has intensified counter-terrorism operations in the region, collaborating with other security agencies and local vigilante groups to dismantle terrorist networks. Authorities have called on residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing efforts to restore peace in the area.
This latest success follows recent military gains against insurgents in the Northwest and underscores the armed forces’ commitment to degrading terrorist activities across the country. Security analysts have described the elimination of these high-value commanders as a major setback for bandit groups operating in the Sokoto-Zamfara axis.
