Nigerian Army forces successfully repelled coordinated bandit attacks in Maru and Tsafe Local Government Areas of Zamfara State, preventing what could have been another deadly assault on rural communities.
Military sources confirmed that troops engaged the armed assailants in fierce gun battles, forcing the criminals to retreat with heavy casualties.
The attacks occurred in the early hours of the morning when large groups of bandits attempted to invade multiple villages.
Alert soldiers stationed in the area quickly mobilised and engaged the marauders, leading to hours-long exchanges of gunfire.
While the exact number of bandit casualties remains unconfirmed, locals reported seeing the attackers flee with several wounded members.
Residents expressed relief at the military’s swift response, though many remain fearful of potential reprisal attacks.
“We heard intense gunshots throughout the night, but thanks to God and our soldiers, the bandits couldn’t enter our village,” said one resident who requested anonymity.
The Nigerian Army has intensified operations in Zamfara as part of ongoing efforts to curb banditry in the Northwest region.
Recent weeks have seen increased military presence and aerial surveillance across vulnerable communities. Security analysts suggest this successful defence operation demonstrates improved response capabilities, though they caution that bandits continue to adapt their tactics.
