Reality TV star Maria Chike Benjamin found herself at the center of social media criticism when a self-proclaimed English professor took to Twitter to critique her use of English.
The incident occurred after Maria posted a tweet on Instagram, quoting lyrics from a song: “He said he missed the old me Boy, don’t tempt me tonight.”
The Twitter user, known as Oriretan, criticized Maria, suggesting that her beauty doesn’t excuse her inability to use correct grammar. He went on to express a broader concern about the intellectual capabilities of some Nigerian celebrities, cautioning Maria to be wiser in her expressions.
In response, Maria promptly corrected Oriretan, clarifying that her post was a direct quote from a musical lyric. She advised him to mind his business and choose another target for criticism. Maria playfully concluded by suggesting he “go cry a little more.”
