The coach of the Golden Eaglets, Nduka Ugbade, has mentioned what his side have to improve on as they face the threat of elimination from the group stage of the Under 17 African Cup of Nations(U-17 AFCON)
The Eaglets won their first game of the competition against Zambia, as Favour Oluwasegun Daniel’s goal in the 76th minute was enough to see the team through.
However, the boys lost their second game to Morocco despite controlling the game and recording 27 attempts on goal.
The Golden Eaglets play South Africa in their final group game on Saturday. And ahead of the fixture, coach Ugbade has revealed that they will work on finishing to ensure they get something from the tie.
We must be more efficient with our chances,” U-17 coach, Ugbade told CAF Media.
“Also, we will try to look for different ways tactically to impact the outcome of the game. We have a chance, but also, that chance can fade away. We have to work hard.”
Nigeria has not won the title since their last conquest in 2007, and Ugbade remains hopeful that they can put their campaign back on track as they search for a third crown.
South Africa needs a win to qualify for the next round. The Golden Eaglets need to be at their best to defeat South Africa. A victory would not just seal their spot in the semifinal of the AFCON; it would also seal their spot at the 2023 Under-17 World Cup.
