The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has criticised Iran’s aggression against Israel.
Guterres issued a statement urging all sides to exercise the greatest caution, stressing that the region and the globe could not afford another conflict.
Recalls that Iran sent hundreds of drones and missiles from its territory towards Israel, with the majority intercepted on Saturday.
Several rockets struck Israeli land, with one damaging an Israeli military base in the country’s south.
He said:
“I call for an immediate cessation of these hostilities.
“I urge all parties to exercise maximum restraint to avoid any action that could lead to major military confrontations on multiple fronts in the Middle East.
“I have repeatedly stressed that neither the region nor the world can afford another war.”
