Pope Francis has advised Catholic voters in the United States of America to “choose the lesser evil” between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.
The pontiff made the statement at a press conference from his papal jet on Friday, following a 12-day trip of Southeast Asia and Oceania.
The pope slammed Harris’ support for abortion rights as an “assassination,” and rebuked Trump, stating “not welcoming migrants is sin.”
He said:
“You must choose the lesser evil.
“Who is the lesser evil? That lady, or that gentleman? I don’t know. Everyone, in conscience, [has to] think and do this.”
The Catholic leader also stated that not voting is both ugly and bad, emphasizing the importance of voting.
However, the pope did not say which candidate, if any, he personally favoured to the catholic voters.
Recall that Harris stated during last Tuesday’s presidential debate that she plans to enshrine Roe v. Wade into law if elected.
Trump, for his part, vowed the biggest mass deportation in American history if he is elected.
