Fola David, a Nigerian doctor and hyper-realism artist, has established a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the biggest drawing by an individual.
David, the Lagos-based visual artist, who hoped to create 1000 square metres of art to reflect Nigeria’s different cultures, began the six-day challenge on July 16 at Onikan Stadium.
On Friday night, in a now-trending social media post, he wrote:
“Congratulations to us all. On Day 4 at 9 pm, we broke the current record of 629.98 square metres, but we are not done! As the goal is to get over 1000 square metres of canvas covered in drawings; we are currently at 689 square metres. Let’s Go!”
Notable Nigerians who have visited David include Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate; Hilda Baci, the former GWR holder; and Farooq Oreagba, the businessman who stole the show at the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival, among others.
