The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced dates for the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). It commences on Monday, 8 May and concludes on Friday, 23 June.
The Head of WAEC National Office, Patrick Areghan confirmed the examination date while addressing journalists in Lagos on Thursday; the examination will take place over seven weeks, from Monday, 8 May, until Friday, 23 June.
He expressed concern about the level of insecurity in the country and suggested that some areas require additional security measures.
“We are liaising with the Inspector General of Police, Brigade Commanders, other security agencies and state governments.
“This is to ensure the examination is conducted under a safe environment. We’ve also sought the intervention of the Minister of Education,”
Areghan added that all WAEC zonal and branch offices have likewise contacted security outfits in their locations for assistance.
According to WAEC, 1,621,853 candidates from 20,851 secondary schools across Nigeria registered for the examination, with 798,810 males representing 49.25 percent, and females 823,043, representing 50.75 percent.
