Former Nigerian presidential candidate Peter Obi and ex-Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi extended a warm welcome to President Bola Tinubu during a surprise encounter at a church service in Rome, Italy.
The meeting, which occurred during a Catholic Mass, showcased a moment of unity among the prominent political figures despite their differing political affiliations.
Eyewitnesses reported that Obi and Fayemi, who were already seated in the congregation, stood to greet Tinubu when they noticed his arrival at the service.
The exchange was described as cordial, with brief pleasantries exchanged before the commencement of the Mass. The unexpected encounter drew attention from fellow worshippers and Nigerians in attendance, many of whom captured the moment on camera.
President Tinubu was in Rome for undisclosed engagements, while Peter Obi had traveled to Italy for personal reasons.
Fayemi, who has maintained a relatively low political profile since leaving office, was also in the European city for private matters.
The coincidence of their meeting at the church service sparked discussions about the possibility of political reconciliation and unity among Nigeria’s leadership class.
