President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said he would shortly present a new minimum wage law to the National Assembly.
Tinubu said this during his democracy day programme on Wednesday.
He pointed out that his administration did not crack down on organised labour in the same way that a dictatorship would have.
He said:
“We have negotiated in good faith and open arms with organized labor on a national minimum wage, we will soon send our executive bill to the National Assembly to enshrine what has been agreed upon in the next five years or less.”
Recall that the National Minimum Wage Committee presented its findings to the President on Monday.
According to the report, the federal government recommended a minimum salary of N62,000, while organised labour sought N250,000.
Governors and the Organised Private Sector offered N57,000 and N62,000.
