Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has restated his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while declaring that he is not afraid to confront influential individuals who undermine governance and accountability.
Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja, Wike made it clear that his political affiliation has not changed, even as he supports the current administration under President Bola Tinubu.
He criticised the tendency of some elites to act with impunity, stating that their power or wealth would not stop him from enforcing the law or making decisions that serve the public.
“I take joy in stepping on the toes of big men who think nothing will happen,” Wike said. “When people don’t want to learn, impunity will destroy them.”
Wike emphasised that his role as FCT Minister is to support the president’s efforts in delivering good governance, regardless of party lines.
According to him, his priority is results and accountability, not pleasing the powerful. “The only person I owe is the president. I am doing this job to support his government and make a difference,” he stated.
Responding to allegations of anti-party behaviour, Wike defended his actions during the last general elections, explaining that his decisions were based on principles of equity and fairness.
He reminded critics that under his leadership, the PDP won elections in Rivers State, showing his continued commitment to the party.
