Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over what he described as defamatory and inciting remarks made against him by the suspended senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

In the petition, signed by his solicitor, N.A. Abubakar Esq, and submitted on Wednesday, Bello urged the Nigeria Police Force to summon Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to present concrete evidence to support her claims.

He further requested that, should she fail to do so, she be arrested and prosecuted for criminal defamation, incitement, and dissemination of false information capable of disturbing public peace.

The petition accused the senator of making “false, reckless and inciting” statements which, according to Bello’s legal team, amount to serious criminal defamation, incitement to public disorder, and false accusation under Nigerian law.

Also, the former governor, Yahaya Bello, through his legal representatives at Chief R.O. Balogun, SAN & Co, has issued a formal demand to Akpoti-Uduaghan, insisting she retract the statements made in two national newspapers and tender a public apology, or face legal action.
