Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed claims that Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, is in its custody.

Recall that the Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, Ohiare Michael, claimed he accepted the anti-graft agency’s invitation on Wednesday.

According to the statement, several prominent Nigerians escorted the former governor to the EFCC headquarters.

However, according to a statement issued by the anti-graft agency’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, Bello is still sought and has an arrest warrant.

“Media reports today that a former Governor of Kogi State, Mr. Yahaya Bello is in the holding facility of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is incorrect. The Commission wishes to state that Bello is not in its custody.

“Bello, already declared wanted by the Commission for alleged N80.2 billion money laundering charges, remains wanted with a subsisting warrant for his arrest,” he stated this in a statement on Wednesday.

The Commission designated Bello wanted following a succession of unsuccessful attempts to apprehend him for suspected N80 billion in money laundering.
