Mr Iheanacho Nwogu, member of the Osisioma North State Constituency, and his Osisioma South counterpart, Mr Fine Ahuama, quit their party, the Young Progressives Party, for the state’s ruling Labour Party, LP.
The legislators confirmed their defection to the Labour Party on the floor of the House in plenary, after the Speaker notified them of their written letter, citing their dismissal from the YPP for suspected anti-party activity.
The lawmakers believe that this decision would further allow them to completely support and encourage Governor Alex Otti in carrying out his obligations of delivering the essential democratic benefits to the people residing in their constituency and all Abians.
The State House of Assembly’s Speaker, Emmanuel Emeruwa, welcomed the two lawmakers and expressed gratitude for their choice. He also urged them to go back to their respective wards and formally register as party members at the ward level and acquire membership cards in order to be considered legitimate and eligible members of the party.
Two senators from the Abia Central senatorial zone are wrapping up their plans to leave the PDP and join the LP, a reliable source inside the Abia State House of Assembly informed DAILY POST on Tuesday.
The insider, who begged to remain anonymous, said that the two politicians want to “build a post-2027 career.”
In plenary, the House also approved and vetted the governor’s nominated and sent candidates for the Abia State Judicial Service Commission.
Mr. Moses Ogbonna, Mr. Chukwu Udensi, Mr. Finecountry Iyioku, and Mr. Chibuzo Irobi are among the nominees.
