More than 20 villagers were killed in the Kali community of Gumi Local Government Area, Zamfara State, while fleeing a bandit attack.
It was gathered that their boat had capsized in a river.
According to a local who requested anonymity, the bandits attacked the community about 1:00 p.m. last Sunday.
He said:
“The bandits were seen moving towards Kalli village on motorcycles with sophisticated weapons to attack the community, which forced the villagers to flee for their safety.”
According to him, the boat was overcrowded and sank along the Birnin Magaji River, killing 20 locals.
He said that five corpses were found in the Falale River, four in the Birnin Magaji River, and three in the Gadar Gummi River.
He went on to say that the bandits terrorised the settlements of Kwammaka, Kwammaka Jibi, Kwammaka Mai Katsina, Kallin, and Kazura, all of which are in the Gummi local government region.
The police are yet to release a statement about the event.
