Bandits have kidnapped Magaji Makau, the district head of Ruwan Rana in Zamfara State’s Bukkuyum Local Government Area.
In the wee hours of Saturday, Makau and five other people were taken hostage. It was learned that one individual perished in the assault.
Mohammed Musa, a local resident, informed reporters that the bandits arrived in the town on motorbikes at around three in the morning and started shooting as soon as they arrived.
They later moved from home to house, until they discovered and abducted the district head.
“We heard gunshots around 3 a.m. and everybody went into hiding because we knew that the bandits were there for abduction.
“They went from house to house and abducted five people, including our district Head, and shot down one person before heading back to the forest,” Musa said.
Hamisu Faru, a local representative in the state House of Assembly, condemned the tragedy and assured everyone that the victims would soon be rescued..
“The security agents are making efforts to rescue the district head and the other five persons,” he added
Yazid Abubakar, the state police Public Relations Officer, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this article.
