Bandits who kidnapped 85 villagers in Wanzamai, Tsafe Local Government Area, Zamfara State, freed 74.
Usman Mohammed, one of the area’s residents, told journalists that 74 victims were released last Friday night, while the rest of the 11 are still detained. Usman said:
We are happy that the bandits have Friday night released 74 victims out of the 85 they have kidnapped but we are still not comfortable as the remaining 11 villagers are still being detained by the bandits.
We have not seen the remaining 11 persons and we don’t know what happened to them. Even after the terrorists have collected an additional amount of N3 million promising to release our people and now they released 74 victims. The terrorists did not inform us whether the remaining 11 persons were alive or not
According to him, some released victims were currently receiving treatment in Wanzamai and Yankara hospitals. Others were in their homes.
The state government and the police command were yet to issue statements on releasing the victims.
