Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of employing North Korean-made ballistic missiles in its recent assault on Kyiv, which resulted in 12 fatalities and over 90 injuries.

Zelenskyy stated that preliminary information indicates the use of a North Korean-manufactured missile, with Ukrainian special services verifying the details.

The attack, which occurred on April 24, 2025, marked the deadliest missile strike on Kyiv in nearly a year.

The missile struck a residential area in the Sviatoshynskyi district around 1 a.m., causing widespread destruction and leaving residents traumatised.

The blast severely damaged a dozen apartment blocks, with rescue teams continuing to search for survivors amid the rubble.

Zelenskyy condemned the use of North Korean missiles, describing it as evidence of the “criminal nature of the alliance between Russia and Pyongyang.”

He warned that such actions not only escalate the conflict but also involve other nations in the war, potentially leading to further international ramifications.

This development raises concerns about the involvement of other nations in the conflict and the potential escalation of hostilities.

The use of foreign-made missiles highlights the complex international dynamics at play in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

In response to the attack, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a rare public rebuke to Russian President Vladimir Putin, urging him to “STOP!” the violence and calling the strikes “not necessary” and ill-timed amid ongoing peace negotiations.

The situation remains fluid, with Ukrainian authorities continuing to assess the full extent of the damage and casualties.

The international community watches closely, as this incident may have significant implications for the future of the conflict and international relations.
