50lawyers to defend Tinubu

Wole Oranipekun will lead 49 other lawyers to defend the victory of  Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu in court. A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), leads a team of legal giants.

According to a report, they are still awaiting the petitions to be filed. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Atiku Abubakar and Labor Party (LP) Peter Obi, are yet to file their petition.

Both opposition candidates expressed dissatisfaction with the declaration of the winner of the February 25th election.

Tinubu received 8,794,726 votes, placing Atiku and Obi on 6,984,520 votes and on 6,101,533 votes respectively, placing second and third.

However, the first and second-place winners have applied to the court for permission to inspect the ballots used.

Members of Tinubu’s legal team will hold a preliminary meeting today in Lagos. They will discuss some of the publicly available issues that may be included in the PDP and LP petitions.

There were indications that some of his PDP governors could participate in court proceedings and testify that state elections were free and fair.

It was revealed that some of them joined the team with great surprise. They are apparently convinced that the presidential election is “the freest and fairest” in the history of the country.

Among the senior lawyers who spearheaded the defence of Tinub’s mandate are former Federal Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Akin Orjimi, Yusuf Ali, Lateef Fagbemi, A.U. Mustapha, Ahmed Raji, Abiodun Owonikoko, Kemi Pinheiro, Niyi Akintola and H.M. Liman.

Others include; Taiwo Osipitan, Babatunde Ogala, Roland Otaru, James Onoja, Muiz Banire, Olusola Oke and former Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abubakar.
