The National Bureau of Statistics has announced that it will release new unemployment and employment figures for the country by May 2023. It disclosed this in a report titled ‘Nigeria Labour Force Framework Re-design 2023’. Noting that the report covers data collected between October 19, 2022, and January 22, 2023.
According to NBS, the report will reveal the-
“Status of the NLFS: Data collection for 2022/2023 is ongoing beginning from 19th October 2022.
“Q4 report will cover data collected between 19th October 2022 and 22nd January 2023. The report for the reference quarter is almost concluded and will be published before the end of May 2023”.
The NBS noted that it was learning from other countries to improve Nigeria’s labour market statistics.
It said-
“Even though collecting high-quality labour market data is among the most difficult tasks that statistical offices around the world face, the NBS has risen to the challenge.
“While this has taken the time and means that comparisons with previous labour market data in Nigeria will not be possible, this places Nigeria’s labour market statistics on more sustainable footing going forward”.
