Rivers to Recruit 10,000 Workers – Gov Fubara

The governor of Rivers State, Siminialaye Fubara, has revealed that his government intends to carry out the initiative to hire 10,000 people for the state civil service. Fubara made this statement while receiving a solidarity visit from the state leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

The governor said the recruiting process was part of the Rivers government’s planned strategy to provide the region’s thronging youngsters jobs.

The state had also conducted tests for those who applied for the jobs.

He stated, “On the issue of employment, you are aware that the process is ongoing. Our own part is to take care of the welfare of our workers and we are doing it well”.

According to Fubara, the government has established modalities to implement transportation palliatives to reduce the high cost of transportation brought on by eliminating the fuel subsidy.

He instructed the state’s Ministry of Transportation to introduce certain buses that will lower the exorbitant cost of transportation that residents are currently experiencing.

The governor pleaded with the people of Rivers to be patient, saying that help will arrive later in the day.

“Also the issue of employment is also ongoing, we are fulfilling our part of the bargain to take care of the workers,” he said.

According to the state NLC chairman Alex Agwanwor, the visit was to congratulate the governor and express their unwavering support for his government.

He encouraged the governor to establish a lasting channel for Labour and the executive branch to regularly address matters that would improve industrial peace in the state.
