Nollywood actor and businessman Jim Iyke has sparked a debate online after revealing the reasons behind his difficulty in making friends.

In an interview with Teju Babyface, he candidly shared his perspective, stating that he prefers a close circle of friends who understand his transitional nature.

Jim expressed his desire for friends who can handle his propensity for growth and evolution without being hung up on his past actions. He emphasized the importance of value in friendships, highlighting his willingness to move mountains for his friends when needed, even if he may not always attend social events like birthdays or anniversaries.

However, his statements received mixed reactions from netizens, with some criticizing what they perceived as excuses for his behaviour:

Mr Uzz:”Using English to cover bad character here and there. You also need to be someone who is accountable for their actions (Bad or good) and act accordingly, Sir.”
Official Mfreke:”All I see here is a man that’s trying too hard to justify his bad character!! Mtchewwwwww.”
Queenvee Hive: “You can’t be a friend and miss my events. Bye.”

Despite the criticism, some individuals appreciated Jim’s self-awareness and approach to friendship:

David Salt:”I love that he has strained this state of self-awareness. Friends like this have their own place and can be more valuable than people who are in your faces every day.”
Psalmmie Place: “Until u realize u need friends to show up for you and not find anyone, then u will realize that no man is an Island.”
Ayzne: “Less friends, less drama.”

Jim Iyke’s openness about his struggles with friendship echoes his previous reflections on his failed marriages, where he took accountability for his shortcomings. Despite the controversies, his willingness to address personal issues openly has garnered admiration from some quarters.
