A few hours before the anti-government rally began, the Lagos State Police Command said that its anti-bomb unit had deactivated an improvised explosive device.
It was decommissioned in Ikeja, Lagos.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, verified the development to The Daily Post.
He was, however, unable to provide specifics about the development at the time of reporting this article.
Nigerian youths, enraged by the country’s current economic suffering, have planned a 10-day statewide demonstration beginning on Thursday, August 1. However, security services had issued security alerts, advising the demonstration organisers to abandon their plans.
When asked about the deactivation of the explosive device, Hundenyin simply said, “Yes, it happened today.”
