After two years as governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo’s administration has finally revealed plans to hold local government elections in Anambra State. The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, or ANSIEC, confirmed this in a press statement on Monday, August 12.
Soludo inaugurated the Commission’s members a week ago, entrusting them with ensuring clean and credible elections in Anambra.
According to a press announcement issued on Monday by ANSIEC Chairman Genevieve C. Osakwe, the election will take place on September 28.
The statement reads:
“The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission wishes to inform all registered Political Parties and the general public that Local Government Elections in the State will be held on Saturday September 28, 2024.
“Election Timetable/Schedule of Activities and Other details can be collected from the Headquarters of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, Awka, from Wednesday, 14th August, 2024.”
This comes after years of agitation by civil society groups, lawmakers, and media in the state, who urged Soludo to keep his pledge to hold LG elections.
