Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has offered heartfelt advice to a fellow single mother while subtly taking a dig at her ex-husband, Olakunle Churchill.
The actress shared her response to a private message from a single mother seeking guidance on how to cope after the end of her marriage.
The woman, referring to herself as “a nobody aiming to be somebody,” asked Tonto how she managed to handle life after her ex-husband left her and their child. Tonto, however, corrected the woman by emphasizing that she was the one who left the marriage for her own and her son’s well-being, which she described as “the best decision I ever made.”
Tonto responded with words of empowerment, telling the woman:
“Remember, you have the power to become the person you aspire to be, as long as you commit to your growth and invest in yourself. Prioritize the well-being of your children while seeking guidance and strength from God. Sometimes the end of the road is the beginning of your blessings, but please, if your marriage is worth it, fight for your home.”
The actress further shared the conversation on her Instagram, writing a note to single mothers. She made it clear that she doesn’t have a “manual” for navigating single motherhood but that she draws her strength from love and God. Her message reads:
“Dear single mothers,
I don’t have a manual for these things.
I am neither a pro in this movement.
My biggest teacher has been LOVE.
I just let God do his thing, and his thing is enough for me.
Draw strength from God, and most especially, keep your family matters private.”
Tonto Dikeh’s comments are perceived as a subtle jab at her ex-husband, Olakunle Churchill, with whom she had a very public and messy divorce. The two were married in 2015, but their union ended in 2017 amidst allegations of infidelity and domestic violence. Churchill has since remarried actress Rosy Meurer, with whom he shares two children.
Despite moving on, the former couple has continued to engage in social media spats, with Tonto accusing Churchill of being a “deadbeat father.” On their son’s 7th birthday last year, Tonto slammed Churchill for only publicly acknowledging their child on special occasions, while Churchill fired back with proof that Tonto had restricted his access to their son.
Churchill also shared a recorded conversation of Tonto pleading with her ex-boyfriend, Kpokpogri, to prevent Churchill from having any contact with his son. He accused Tonto of making co-parenting impossible and frustrating his efforts to be involved in their son’s life.
Despite last year’s drama, Churchill penned another note to their son when he turned 8, writing that he counts his son among his greatest blessings.
Tonto Dikeh’s recent advice to single mothers appears to reflect her ongoing determination to prioritize her growth and her son’s well-being, even amid the ongoing tension with her ex-husband.
