Big Brother Naija reality star Hermes Iyele has announced the passing of his mother, Isioma Phebian Iyele. The devastating news was shared on his Instagram page on November 5, 2024, where Hermes expressed the overwhelming grief he is experiencing.
In his heartfelt post, Hermes revealed that he made the news public so he could begin to process his loss and because he currently lacks the strength and capacity—both mentally and financially—to navigate this difficult time alone. He called on his fans and the public to pray for him and his siblings, asking for support in any way possible.
It is with the heaviest of hearts that I’d like to make public the passing of my beloved mum, ISIOMA PHEBIAN IYELE, on the 5th of November 2024. I’m doing this so I can properly start my grief and also because I currently lack the strength or capacity (mentally and finance-wise) to handle this situation. Pls pray for my siblings and I. Pls support us in all the ways you can,” Hermes wrote.
The reality star shared that he received the tragic news while on a work trip and is trying his best to fulfill his professional commitments while dealing with the loss. He asked for patience as he may not be able to respond to calls and messages immediately and stated that burial arrangements would commence once he returns.
Hermes concluded his post with: “Love and light always.”
Fans and fellow celebrities have flooded his comment section with condolences and words of encouragement, showing an outpouring of love for the grieving star.
This year has seen other notable public figures mourning the loss of loved ones. In September, skit maker Nasty Blaq lost his mother, sharing his heartbreak and praying for the strength to heal. Earlier in May, highlife singer Flavour bid farewell to his father, Papa Ijele, with an emotional tribute video. The entertainment industry also saw actress Faithia Williams and actress Chizzy Alichi grappling with the deaths of their fathers, expressing the irreplaceable void their losses left behind.
