Nigerian media personality, Gbemi Olateru Olagbegi, popularly known as Gbemi Oo, has opened up about her reasons for rejecting the direct messages (DMs) of several footballers and wealthy, good-looking men.
In a candid conversation on the Menisms podcast, Gbemi revealed that her main fear was that these men would screenshot their conversations and share them publicly in large group chats.
She explained,
What is your take on DM etiquette? I don’t answer. When I was single, I didn’t answer. My phobia was they would screenshot the conversation and give it to a big chat. I am not going to lie. There were some rich people, good-looking guys, that would slide into my DM, and I wouldn’t answer. Footballers slid into my DM, I didn’t answer. I am not going to answer. See me in person and talk to me.”
In addition to discussing her approach to DMs, Gbemi also shared her thoughts on dating younger men. While acknowledging that her husband is younger than her, she emphasized that she has specific criteria for the age gap, stating that she doesn’t date men who are more than 5 years older or younger than her.
Her statements sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some netizens expressing disbelief. Comments included:
- Don_dawnzaschuks: “Who is she?”
- Olu_herodotus: “Iro po” (meaning lies)
- Anozie Kenneth: “Okay but who is she?”
- Vasilissa_c: “It’s Toolz’s reaction for me.”
- Pattys_parlour: “Will you keep quiet.”
In a lighter moment, other celebrities made headlines with similar relationship-themed announcements. Yoruba actress Wumi Toriola jokingly told suitors to come with a transfer letter from their ex if they wanted to date her, while content creator and actress Kiekie humorously mentioned the overwhelming amount of DMs she receives daily.
Meanwhile, Davido’s first baby mama, Sophia Momodu, made waves by revealing that she only goes on dates that require a passport.
