Lagos State House of Assembly has summoned the state’s Lands Bureau to provide explanations regarding several discrepancies uncovered in land allocations and related activities.
The lawmakers raised concerns about irregularities in records and allocation processes, prompting a formal request for the bureau’s appearance before the House.
The decision was reached during a recent plenary session following a report by the Committee on Land Matters.
The committee revealed inconsistencies in documentation and flagged cases where land allocations did not follow due process.
Lawmakers expressed dissatisfaction with the management of land resources and questioned the transparency and accountability of the Lands Bureau.
According to the Assembly, the summons is part of its oversight function aimed at ensuring that land administration in the state is conducted lawfully and in the public’s best interest.
Members emphasised that land is a valuable resource and must be managed with integrity to prevent abuse, speculation, and conflict.
The Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, stated that the Lands Bureau must address all issues raised and clarify its role in questionable allocations.
He stressed the importance of proper documentation and compliance with legal frameworks in all land-related transactions.
In response, the Committee on Land Matters has been tasked with working closely with the Lands Bureau to uncover the root of the irregularities and recommend corrective actions.
The House also plans to conduct a comprehensive review of the state’s land allocation procedures to promote transparency and restore public confidence in land management practices.
The Lands Bureau is expected to appear before the Assembly soon to provide detailed explanations and submit relevant documents for review.
