Weightlifting duo Rafiatu Folashade Lawal and Adijat Adenike Olarinoye will participate in the 59kg women’s division at the current 2024 Africa Senior Weightlifting Championship in Egypt on Monday evening, hoping to win gold and silver medals for Nigeria.
According to Amaechi Agbo, the Media Officer of the Nigerian Weightlifting Federation, both weightlifters earned three gold and three silver medals at the 2023 edition in Tunisia in May.
The Championship, which also doubles as a Paris 2024 qualification, started on Sunday with an opening ceremony.
Recall that the Nigerian contingent, consisting of four lifters and four officials, landed in Cairo, Egypt on Saturday for the 2024 Africa Senior Weightlifting Championship.
The Championship will also serve as a qualification for the 2024 Olympic games.
Lawal and Adenike are slated to compete for the 2024 medals in the 59kg women’s division at 4 p.m. Nigeria time.
