Pastor Umo Eno, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, has named grass-roots development as one of the main remedies to border disputes and other community conflicts.
Governor Eno made the statement at the Government House in Uyo on Friday, when Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), led by its National Chairman, Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien, paid the governor during a courtesy visit.
According to a statement released to journalists on Saturday.
He gave the Forum reassurance that his government was dedicated to resolving the border disputes that have plagued the majority of the state’s towns.
He argued that bringing development to the people will refocus rural residents’ attention and energy on more lucrative endeavours.
Gov. Eno remarked:
“That is why you don’t hear of boundary crises between Victoria Island and Apapa. On the issue of mapping and remapping, we have asked all the parties to hold on. This case is in the court and my understanding is that when a case is in court, everyone should hold on.
“So we are suing for peace, and I believe that peace will soon come. We want to see the peace while we do all we can to bring development to those communities”.
The Governor praised the Forum’s leaders and participants for their dedication and perseverance in achieving peace, development, and progress in the Niger Delta area.
