On Thursday, the Anambra State House of Assembly passed the N607 billion 2025 budget into law.
Recall that on November 19, Governor Chukwuma Soludo presented the 2025 budget to the Assembly.
The budget was passed following a proposal by the Majority Leader of the House representing Ekwusigo State Constituency, Ikenna Ofodeme.
Dr. Somto Udeze, Speaker of the Assembly, stated that the 2025 budget’s passing was more than just a milestone; it demonstrated the synergy between the legislative and executive branches of government.
Udeze stated that they were impressed that the outgoing budget had been implemented to the tune of 80%, and expressed hope that it would be sustained in the 2025 budget.
He urged state residents to continue supporting Gov. Soludo’s government and to pay their taxes.
In a post-budget media briefing, Mr Ejike Okechukwu, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, stated that the budget was passed exactly as given by the governor.
However, Okechukwu pointed out that, while the total budget size was not changed, there were realignments between and between Ministries, Departments, and Agencies inside the envelope.
He stated that the budget planned and predicted recurring N139.5 billion, or 23 percent, while N407.5 billion, or 77 percent, would be used for capital expenditure.
He said:
“The budget size did not have any change from what the governor presented but there were Internal changes, some codes were changed to enable government access funds lying there to meet urgent needs.
“Some institutions like Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University and Nwafor Orizu College of Education had more funds allocated to their recurrent expenditures and subvention to enable run them more effectively.”
