Within her first six months in office, Prof. Oby Orogbu, a lawmaker representing Awka North/South federal constituency in the House of Representatives, has said to have empowered over 200 households in her district.

Orogbu continued, saying that she entered active politics to free the weak, particularly the women of Anambra State.

The politician made this statement at the “Awka North/South Unity Carol of Nine Lessons,” a festival including songs from nine classes. The event was hosted in the state capital of Awka.

Speaking to supporters from the Awka North and South Local Government Areas, Orogbu—who also serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility—said that empowering the people was a part of her duty to free them from social injustices and hunger.

According to her:

“My interest in joining politics is to assist my sister, Senator Uche Ekwunufe, to liberate our people from unwanted hunger and other challenges in the society.

“Within my six months in office, I have helped over 200 households in my constituency. As it stands now, I have submitted 2,000 names of people from the constituency that would be receiving N25,000 monthly stipends each from the Federal Government Cash Transfer programme.

“The beneficiaries cut across political, ethnic and religious affiliations -Yorubas, Hausas, Calabaris and members of other political parties residing within the constituency are part of the gesture.”
