The Federal Government has announced that its newly launched BisonFly project is projected to save the country up to 24 billion Naira annually in official air travel expenses.
This disclosure was made in a statement from the Federal Ministry of Finance, which outlined the initiative’s goal to drastically reduce government overheads through a system of centralised bookings and discounted airfares.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, emphasised that the project is a crucial component of the administration’s fiscal reforms.
He explained that by coordinating all official travel and leveraging the government’s collective bargaining power, significant discounts can be secured. The Minister drew a parallel to successful models used by global institutions like the World Bank, underscoring the government’s commitment to prudent financial management.
According to the ministry’s estimates, the BisonFly project is expected to deliver between eighteen and twenty-four billion naira in yearly savings from discounted airfares purchased by various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
The initiative is described as a strategic, technology-enabled system designed to manage all official travel through a centralised digital platform. This integration is intended to promote greater transparency, ensure operational efficiency, and optimise costs across the public service.
The government further stated that the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Its successful implementation is anticipated to instil a culture of fiscal discipline, responsible financial management, and improved service delivery within the Federal Civil Service. Beyond direct savings, the initiative is also seen as a contributor to broader economic growth, job creation, and enhanced public sector productivity.
