Nigerian Gospel singer, Busola Oke, has recently ignited a storm of reactions on social media as she courageously called out her former record label boss, Gbenga Adewusi, for depriving her of her hard-earned income. In a shocking revelation, she exposed how her refusal to yield to his advances led to her financial downfall, ultimately forcing her to sell her assets.

Taking to her Instagram page in the wake of the tragic passing of singer Mohbad, whose untimely death has given many a voice, Busola Oke vented her frustrations at the veteran music producer and promoter, accusing him of seizing her music earnings as punishment for rebuffing his sexual advances.

With fiery words and curses directed at her former boss, she lamented how her potential wealth and recognition were stifled by his insatiable lust and greed. Her heartfelt tribute to Mohbad not only exposed the dark side of the Nigerian gospel music industry but also sparked a wave of reactions online.

Many observers noted that Mohbad’s tragic demise has cast a glaring spotlight on the pervasive issues within the music industry. They voiced their concerns about record labels exploiting artists, with some taking up to 70% of their earnings. Others expressed skepticism about any genuine change happening in the industry.

As the revelations unfolded, it became evident that the exploitation of talent and abuse of power aren’t limited to the music industry alone. Similar issues have plagued the movie industry, where actresses have become increasingly vocal about the prevalence of “sex-for-roles” scandals. Yoruba actress Biodun Okeowo, popularly known as Omoborty, disclosed how some colleagues were blacklisted from roles because they refused to compromise their principles.

Moreover, Bimbo Ademoye, another actress, shared her own experiences of having to fend off advances from movie producers who sought to exploit her early in her career. These stories shed light on the dark underbelly of the entertainment world, where talent and ambition can sometimes come at a steep price.

It remains to be seen whether Busola Oke’s brave revelations will lead to significant changes within the gospel music industry and the broader entertainment sector. However, one thing is clear: the conversation around exploitation and abuse of power within these industries has been reignited, and many are calling for long-overdue reforms.
