Comedian Chris Rock’s latest stand-up special, Selective Outrage, has caused quite an uproar. This is coming after he berated Meghan Markle over her claims of racism during her interview with Oprah Winfrey.
In the show, Rock mocked Markle’s allegations. He suggested heavily that she was just dealing with internal family drama and that she had won the “light-skinned lottery”.
He also joked about the colour of Markle’s baby’s skin and suggested that her struggles to be accepted by her white in-laws were not as difficult as a white girl trying to be accepted by her black in-laws. Rock stated;
I know her dilemma: Black girl trying to be accepted by her white in-laws. Oh it’s hard. It’s so hard, it’s very hard – but it ain’t as hard as a white girl trying to be accepted by her black in-laws. Now that s*** is really hard. Meghan Markle, I know the dilemma.
I’m like, “If you black and you wanted to be accepted by your white in-laws then you need to marry a Kardashian because they accept everybody.”‘
Rock’s controversial comments have sparked a heated debate about racism and discrimination in the entertainment industry.
