Niger State Governor Umaru Bago has pardoned 80 convicts from the state’s different correctional facilities.

The governor also authorized the prompt payment of their fines, enabling the inmates to reunite with their families.

According to a statement issued by Alhaji Abubakar Usman, Secretary to the State Government, in Minna on Monday, the gesture was made to commemorate the 2023 Democracy Day.

Governor Umaru Bago emphasized that the detainees’ release was in accordance with the governor’s constitutional power of mercy.

According to Usman. The State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy recommended the release of the 80 detainees. Based on their age, health, and demeanor.

Usman urged the pardoned convicts to make use of the opportunity to engage in productive activities and to avoid any actions that may land them back in jail.

He also urged people to be law-abiding and engage in lawful activities by taking advantage of numerous empowerment opportunities.

The SSG urged citizens to spend this period reflecting on their responsibilities in peace-building and support for good governance.

He also urged them to support the administration’s programs and policies aimed at accelerating the state’s growth.

The administration, Usman guaranteed, would make sure that democracy’s rewards reached every part of the state.
