The 2023 National Entrepreneurship Exhibition and Awards competition was won by students from Mater Amabilis Secondary School in Umuoji, Anambra State. This incredible feat occurred after a tough competition among 20 of the country’s premier secondary schools.
The yearly competition, conducted by the Nigerian chapter of the Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship, aims to prepare students with entrepreneurial and technical abilities.
The event was conducted from June 25 to 28, 2023, at the Area Council Service Commission House in Garki, Abuja. It exhibited the participant teams’ creative ideas and entrepreneurial talents.
Mater Amabilis Secondary School wowed the judges with their exceptional efforts, taking first place overall.
A hydroelectric device that transforms salt water into energy is one of their projects. It is a multi-purpose agro machine capable of weeding, irrigating, sowing, fumigating, and monitoring soil moisture and nutrient levels.
These ground-breaking ideas displayed the students’ inventiveness, ingenuity, and dedication to tackling important societal issues.
Mater Amabilis Secondary School has secured the right to represent Nigeria at the next SAGE World Cup in Italy later this year as a result of this achievement.
Furthermore, the gold medalists have been awarded a full scholarship to study at Cyprus International University.
Furthermore, Joshua Ekeh and Grace Amamudi captained the team. Ekeh received the SAGE Best Mentor of the Year award as well.
Reacting, the Manager of Mater Amabilis Secondary School, Rev. Fr. Francis Onwuchulum, expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the pupils for their outstanding accomplishment, viewing it as another milestone in the school’s history of success.
Onwuchulum further advised the award-winning pupils to –
“remain focused in their studies and view the triumph as a stepping stone towards even greater life accomplishments.”
He praised the school’s proprietor, Most Rev. Valerian Maduka Okeke, Archbishop of Onitsha. He characterised him as the brains behind all of the school’s recent accomplishments.
