Senator Ahmad Lawan, representing Yobe North, has denied allegations that he ordered the arrest of Ishe’u Ibrahim Jadda, a constituent who criticised the Gashua water supply project.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Lawan’s media adviser, Ezrel Tabiowo, described the report as “reckless and untrue,” asserting that the senator has never used his position to silence dissent or intimidate critics.
The controversy centres on a recent media report claiming that Jadda was arrested due to his comments about the water project.
Lawan’s office clarified that the project, which was initiated in response to a public health crisis in Gashua, has been completed and handed over to the Yobe State Government by the federal government. However, the statement did not confirm whether the project is currently operational.
Lawan emphasised his commitment to democratic ideals and freedom of expression, highlighting his long-standing record of upholding the rule of law and encouraging open dialogue. He condemned the allegations as a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation and undermine the progress achieved in Yobe North.
