On Saturday, the Senate held an extraordinary session to discuss and adopt several economic proposals.
The Senate authorised an increase in the federal government’s access to Ways and Means loans from 5% to 15%.
According to the legislators, the approval of the ways and means by the National Assembly and advances to the Federal Government by the Central Bank of Nigeria will enable the Federal Government to pay its immediate and future commitments.
The Senate also adopted legislation to prolong the implementation of the 2022 supplementary budget by six months, from June to December 2023, as authorised by the House on Thursday.
Though the Order Paper for Sunday’s session has not yet been released, the House may be agreeing with the Senate on the bills, which is required for legislation to be signed by the President.
Buhari may possibly sign the laws into law before handing over authority to President-elect Bola Tinubu on Monday.
According to the PUNCH, the Senate will meet on Tuesday and Wednesday, while the House will meet till Thursday.
